With less than a month to go until a critical US election, markets appear to be on a less stable footing than they were throughout the summer as a number of headwinds – resurgent COVID-19 infections, Brexit, inevitable profit-taking and the US election itself – have converged to hit pause on the almost uninterrupted rally we have seen in risk assets since the sell-off in late March.
